Tips from Hamid's 30-Year Career
- Explore. Do not limit yourself to being an auditor or, if you are lucky, CFO. Be whatever you want to be: an entrepreneur, an economist, a CEO.
- It's important to enjoy what you do. I have been working for over 30 years now, but I still have the passion for my work.
- It is you who are the stumbling block - nothing else. It is important to believe in yourself, and work hard to achieve what you want.
- Get the fundamentals right. Learning the basics of accounting and finance helped my career immensely.
- Have courage. Grab opportunities. Identify them and take them. I wouldn't be here today if I had played it safe in one job, rather than looking for new challenges.
- Make sure you do a lot of reading. That will enable you to complement your education. I spend at least an hour a day reading about economics and finance, and he blogs about his financial opinions too - click here to read more.
- Marry young so you don't get distracted. Marriage is the best thing that has happened to me. My success is due to my ACCA qualification and my very supportive wife.
